One Final Rewrites the Table
Counter-Strike finished second in global esports peak viewership for the first half of 2026, ahead of League of Legends for the first time in recent memory. The number behind that ranking is 2,752,353 — peak viewers for the FURIA vs Team Falcons Grand Final at IEM Cologne Major 2026, a new all-time record for the title.
That result is real. What it reflects is one match. Cologne is the Major — the event that draws audiences who don’t follow Counter-Strike the rest of the year. FURIA vs Falcons was also a loaded final: two organizations with large, vocal fanbases geographically distinct enough to stack concurrent viewership. Remove Cologne from the H1 table and the gap between CS2 and LoL narrows considerably.
League of Legends sits third at 2,270,021 peak viewers, a figure reached during the LCK 2026 Road to MSI qualifier — a domestic Korean broadcast, not a world championship. The T1 vs Gen.G match on the final day, a 3-2 with a MSI spot on the line and the reigning champions going home without qualifying, generated its own gravity. That 2.27 million is a floor. The 2026 World Championship hasn’t happened yet.

MLBB Holds the Top — With One Number Worth Watching
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is still the most-watched esports title of 2026. The M7 World Championship reached 5,680,511 peak viewers in January, and two of the next four most-watched tournaments of the half were MLBB regional leagues: MPL Indonesia Season 17 at 2,948,968 and MPL Philippines Season 17 at 1,695,073.
The figure that deserves more attention is the Indonesia one. MPL Indonesia Season 17 posted a second consecutive season of declining peak viewership after Season 15. The Grand Final between ONIC Esports and Bigetron by Vitality drew nearly 2.95 million — impressive in isolation — but fell well short of the league’s all-time record. Two straight seasons of decline after a peak is a pattern with its own logic, and there is no secondary title positioned to absorb further MLBB softness. The global rankings remain structurally dependent on one game performing at or above its historical ceiling.
MPL Philippines Season 17 reached the second-highest peak in that league’s history, 100,000 viewers short of the Season 15 record. That comparison matters: Season 15 appears to have been an outlier across the entire MLBB circuit, not a new baseline.

The Bottom of the Top Five Is Preliminary Data
PUBG Mobile and VALORANT each cleared one million peak viewers by mid-year — 1,077,552 and 1,071,916 respectively — with nearly identical figures from the PUBG Mobile Global Open 2026 Season 1 and VALORANT Masters London 2026. Both games hold their flagship world championships in the second half of the year. Both will almost certainly post higher numbers before December. The H1 figures are warm-up data, not representative ones.
Taken as a whole, this table shows a viewership landscape concentrated at the top, dependent on a small number of annual events, and structured around Southeast Asian mobile audiences more than any other single factor. When those events overperform, the story is growth. When they plateau — as MPL Indonesia appears to be doing — the underlying fragility becomes visible.
Ma the headlines will call it a CS2 resurgence. Ma the numbers are mostly about when Cologne falls on the calendar.
