The Last Region Standing
There’s a specific kind of relief that doesn’t quite feel like celebration.
EMEA got all three teams through. For the first time since Shanghai, the region arrived somewhere whole. Vitality, FUT, Heretics, all in. That’s the fact. The feeling, though, isn’t triumphant. It’s more like exhaling after holding your breath without noticing you were.
FUT had to go the long way. An extra series, an extra week of uncertainty, NRG waiting on the other side. They survived. And NRG, who came in expecting to be fine, left before the week was over. Inconsistency doesn’t announce itself. It just shows up one round past the point where you can explain it away.
The Pacific story is harder to sit with. FULL SENSE went out early. Global Esports followed. Paper Rex is the only one left, one team standing in for an entire region’s reputation, which is a strange weight to carry into an upper bracket match against a team that went 2-0 without much drama.
Xi Lai Gaming walked in with two previous internationals that went nowhere. Then happywei had one of those performances where you can see someone deciding, somewhere in the middle of a game, that this isn’t how the trip ends. The team followed him there. That’s not macro. That’s mood.
The bracket is set now. Heretics and Vitality again same final, different stage. Some things resolve and some things echo, and it’s not always obvious which is which until you’re already watching.
The week felt like everyone finding out where they actually stood, not where they thought they stood.
