Spanish Futsal 2024: A Year of Domestic Triumphs and International Glory
2024 proved to be another remarkable year for Spanish futsal clubs, continuing their dominance from 2023 by securing multiple prestigious titles across different competitions.
Jimbee Cartagena emerged as the breakthrough success story of 2024. Capturing both the League title and Super Cup under the visionary leadership of president Miguel Ángel Jiménez Bosque. The club’s commitment to excellence extends beyond competitive success, focusing on player development and establishing a sustainable model for the future. Looking ahead to 2025, Jimbee Cartagena remains competitive across all five competitions and will host the Spanish Super Cup in mid-January.
Illes Balears Palma Futsal reinforced their European and global supremacy by securing their second consecutive UEFA Futsal Champions League and Intercontinental titles. Under the guidance of their leadership team including Tomeu Quetglás, José Tirado, and Antonio Vadillo, the club achieved victories in both Yerevan and their home arena of Son Moix. Demonstrating their continued excellence at the highest level.
A Year of contrasts
Real Betis Futsal experienced a year of contrasts, facing relegation but achieving glory by winning the Copa del Rey in dramatic fashion at their San Pablo Pavilion. Their victory over Jimbee Cartagena, secured through penalty kicks after a 3-3 draw, marked their first major trophy. The team currently leads the Second Division and continues their Copa del Rey campaign.
FC Barcelona concluded their successful era under Jesús Velasco by winning the Spanish Cup against ElPozo Murcia in a penalty shootout. Under new coach Tino Pérez, and featuring world player of the year Dyego, the team faces new challenges, including recent setbacks like their Catalonia Cup final loss to Industrias Santa Coloma.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Spanish national teams face different trajectories. The men’s team, under Jesús Velasco, has begun a transition period as they prepare for the upcoming Euro Cup in Latvia and Lithuania. The women’s team, led by Clàudia Pons and featuring 2024’s best female player Peque, will compete for World Cup qualification in March, facing France, Poland, and Finland in their qualifying group.
