Tactical Turnaround: Ricardo Íñiguez’s Mission to Revive Viña Albali Valdepeñas

New Coach Ricardo Íñiguez Aims to Turn Fortunes Around at Viña Albali Valdepeñas

Ricardo Íñiguez has officially taken over coaching duties at Viña Albali Valdepeñas, beginning his tenure with a clear mission of rescuing the team from their current precarious league position. The newly appointed coach first observed his team’s performance from the stands during a 4-4 draw against Wanapix Zaragoza, before formally being introduced and leading his first training session on Monday.

Acknowledging the team’s challenging circumstances, Íñiguez emphasized an immediate focus on the upcoming match against Noia. The club currently sits second to last in the league standings, having accumulated just 4 points from 9 matches, with a record of one draw, one victory, and seven losses.

“When I arrived, I noticed the team feeling somewhat demoralized by their current situation,” Íñiguez candidly shared. “They are eager for change and want the team to perform better, but results haven’t been going their way.” He stressed the importance of identifying and addressing key issues while maintaining a forward-looking perspective.

Libyan National Team

Despite having recently coached the Libyan National Team at the World Cup in Uzbekistan, Íñiguez was drawn to this project. “It’s an exciting opportunity,” he explained. “Valdepeñas is a great city, and I believe we have an excellent squad. I’m coming with tremendous enthusiasm to work hard and help the team reach its potential.”

The coach is particularly aware of the team’s defensive vulnerabilities, noting that Viña Albali Valdepeñas has conceded the most goals in the First Division, with 40 goals against. “I’m a coach who prioritizes defensive solidity,” Íñiguez stated. “My goal is to create a team that’s defensively robust, allows players to express themselves, and follows a clear tactical framework.”

Íñiguez’s first significant challenge comes next Saturday in Galicia, facing Noia Portus Apostoli, currently positioned at the bottom of the league table. A defeat could potentially drop Valdepeñas to the league’s basement position.

Maintaining an optimistic tone, the new coach concluded: “Right now, we feel trapped in a difficult moment, like being under a dark cloud. But we’re committed to breaking through, thinking positively, and working diligently to transform our current situation.”
